This page explains how to play the game and make progress.
Please be wary of spoilers.
This game operates as a point-and-click adventure using your computer mouse or on-screen tapping (mobile). No keyboard controls are required.
Text will use a small heart cursor to show your mouse hovering over it.
As of writing, on-screen button controls for the dragon fight are planned. Mouse control will not be replaced by it; both control schemes will be usable.
"ENGAGE DRAGON" works as a turn-based, classic RPG fight. It is inspired by the likes of Final Fantasy, EarthBound and others. You must keep attacking the dragon until its health reaches zero. The six options to choose from are: ATTACK, MAGIC, SKILLS, ITEMS, DEFEND, and FLEE.
At your disposal are 3 types of moves to use against the dragon: A standard attack, magic spells, and special skills. ATTACK deals small damage with no added features. It can always be used, even when your other two bars are depleted. MAGIC deals moderate damage and has a chance to give the dragon a STATUS, giving you the upper hand. Finally, SKILLS deal strong damage multiplied by your damage stat. The bar will refill at a rate of 1 point per turn.
The first two MAGIC attacks, BLAZE BUST and SPARK STAB, both cost 2 MG and have a chance to inflict BURNED or STUNNED respectively. If you miss either attack, your MG will not be docked; this is intentional to help leverage you against the game's difficulty. The same goes for COMBUSTAR and TRIPLE SLASH, having a higher chance to miss in response to more damage.
CHARGE gives you a boosted damage of 2 at a cost of 3 MG. This only lasts for 1 turn, but can be used with either skill move to deal heavy damage. HEAL HP does as it says: it gives you a full health refill, at a cost of 3 MG. This was chosen to help incentivize risk versus reward, depending on how you'd like to play the fight. There is no shame in needing to help yourself... unless you're on a challenge run, of course.
There are 4 item divisions in your inventory: MG ELIXIR is the only way to refill your MG, compared to SP replenishing itself. This gives more variety in the moveset to help you decide on what to do; MAGIC will need to be used frequently to survive, but you should still be allowed to play how you want. ATK ELIXIR and DEF ELIXIR raise your attack and defense stats for a total of 3 turns. While weaker, they allow leeway in strategic offense-defense balance. Finally, DECOY is the only offensive item: it has a 50/50 chance to succeed or fail, but will greatly damage the dragon by 1/4th of its total health. There are two just in case you want or need a second chance.
The dragon has 4 types of STATUS it can inherit, and if lucky enough, you can encounter all at once: BURNED deals 2 damage to the dragon while active. STUNNED will delay the dragon's turn until it wears off. ANGERED uses the dragon's turn when activated, but it will deal an extra point of damage while active on the next turn. Lastly, CHARGED will also increase the dragon's damage by 1, effectively doubling its power when the latter 2 are active at once.
This can help against the dragon when its damage is increased. You can negate its attacks down to 1 HP of damage, and the menu option is still usable if you run out of elixirs. This can be helpful per the above statuses' increased damage.
This project was not made with the intent of saving user data. It is able to be completed within the span of an hour. "Progress" can be fairly easy to get back to, and there is little sense of progression itself; the project is just an experiment first and foremost.
